Easter 2011

We had a fabulous Easter that kicked off at the beginning of April when the Easter Bunny arrived at the mall.    Lucas was so excited to see the Bunny, but was disturbed that the he could not talk with him since he went to ask him some questions.  He had planned to ask the Easter Bunny "what do you eat and where do you sleep" (I guess that is what a 4 year old thinks about).  Anyway, he was upset when the conversation was one sided, but things turned around when he got candy and bunny ears.  Needless to say we returned about 5 times, and of course I never had his picture taken.

Then when Easter weekend arrived we were able to spend time with friends as this was our last weekend in Ann Arbor.  Saturday morning we had a brunch as well as an easter egg hunt with our beloved ward friends.  Then that evening we had another Easter Egg and a delicious dinner with more friends.

Late Saturday night Mom arrived so it was very nice to have her for the holiday.  Sadly Sunday morning I  did not take pictures, but the Easter Bunny did visit our house and left plenty of candy as well as a alphabet magnet for both kiddos.  Although,  Lucas believes it is just his and pushes it high enough on the refrigerator so Penny cannot play with it.   No pictures of their Easter outfits because we are always late for church and then after church we are not focused enough, but I assure you they looked darling.

That evening we invited ourselves over to one of our favorite friend's house for dinner.  Then on Monday we dyed easter eggs with one of Lucas's best friends.
very focused on finding the eggs

My cute boys, I love them!  It was not raining that day it was actually beautiful Lucas just insisted on wearing his rain boots.

Penny was there

Penny 10 months

10 months
I cannot believe that Penny is 10 months old.  She is going to be one before I know it.  I love this age she has the cutest personality.  Most of her day is spent following Lucas or I around the house.   She is still breastfeeding, but she is losing interest quickly because she wants to see what is going on around her.  Penny is only 15 lbs 15 oz (1%) and 28 inches (42%).  So, she is tiny but I spend most of my day feeding her, she eats anything and everything I guess she just has a good metabolism.  I love having her in my life she brightens our day and seeing Lucas and Penny together makes my day.
Here are a few things she is up to:
  • Crawls everywhere and if she sees something she wants she goes fast
  • Lucas is her favorite person.  Every time she sees him in the morning she goes crazy smiling, kicking her legs, and laughing.
  • Penny can stand on her own for a minute, but she doesn't have the confidence so when she notices she is doing it she sits down.
  • She walks around the furniture, but will not walk when I hold her hands.
  • Penny has two bottom teeth and they are so cute.
  • She claps her hands.
  • Her favorite song is the itsy bitsy spider and she tries to do the actions.
  • She sucks her thumb, but mostly when she is tired.  That is actually the only way I know she is tired is if she sucks her thumb.
  • Penny hardly cries only when she wants to be part of whatever Lucas and I are doing, or if she is hungry.
  • She babbles a lot and can say "mama"  and "dada", and she mimics the words we say.
5 months old
6 months old,  that is her valentine's outfit.  Penny had RSV at the time so she looks really pale.
7 months old
8 months and we just saw the easter bunny.
9 months old

FUMCN Preschool

Lucas attended preschool last year and he loved.  It was a play based preschool so I am not really sure how much learning he did, but he was able to do things that I would have never done with him.  He also made great friends and he learned more independence.  It was a coop preschool so I was able to help out during preschool this was fun and annoying.  I really loved his teacher and so did he.  The last day he went to school was his birthday so that was extra special.  After we moved to Rhode Island we received a DVD from his class.  We watched and he said he was so sad and missed his friends.  It was a really great experience for both of us.
Ms. Mary
Ms. Juli, it was after school and Lucas was being grumpy so I had to sneak this picture in.
There was a box maze the size of the room
Lucas the firefighter
Playing the bananas.  Notice Ethan the other boy playing bananas.  Most of the pictures from preschool with Lucas had Ethan next to him.  They are so cute together.
Lucas's birthday cupcakes
Ethan and Lucas holding up their surfboards they made on Beach Day.
I think this picture is from his first day of preschool.  I miss his hair.
Riding his surf board.
I am not sure why he is grumpy.
His favorite part of preschool playing on the playground.  Too bad in the winter it took so long to get the kids dressed that play time lasted about 5 minutes.
Ethan and Lucas using their dream catchers.
Story book Character Day, Ethan, Lucas, Elizabeth, Sophia, Lily, and Kate.
Isaac, Lily, Kate, Lucas, and Ethan.  Lucas is dressed up like Curious George, and the costume is a size 18-24 month which explains the arms.  What really made me laugh was the fact he wanted to wear the gloves that were attached to the arms.  His hands would get so sweaty and man was it hard to get his hands in and out.

Salty Brine Beach

Saturday we decided to check out Rhode Island beaches.  The entire drive there it was sunny, but as soon as we arrived at the beach it was covered in fog and it was cold.  We were bummed and wanted to go, but we had a four year old that would not let us leave.  We toughed it out and about an hour in it got sunny and warmed up.  It was so nice to have Ned there I actually got to just lay on the beach it was so nice.  The water was freezing, but both Lucas and Penny loved it.  The whole time Penny was in the water her lips were chattering, but she was smiling and splashing so I guess she didn't mind.

"Why is the weather so crappy?"

Lucas kept picking these up and squishing them, Gross.  Does anyone know what they are?

Lucas Prosthetic

Ned has been working really hard with Lucas to help him walk with his prosthetic.  This particular prosthetic has a joint so that it bends more like a normal leg, well as normal as it can be.  Anyway, Lucas hates when the leg bends so for the last 6 months instead of fighting with him I have just left it as a straight prosthetic.  Ned and I finally decided it was time for him to learn so we threw away the Velcro that kept it from bending and Lucas is doing really good.  We are very proud of him.

Lego Lion

Last fall while we were visiting Chicago we were walking down Michigan Ave. and there were a bunch of Lego figurines.  Well, the lion just struck us especially Lucas.

Mobile

As I said before the kids, my mom, and I took a road trip from Rhode Island to Mobile.  Then we had the opportunity to stay for 3 weeks.  It is always nice to visit my mom she has the hot tub and the pool which creates hours of entertainment for Lucas.  We were also able to go the beach and visit with Dardy.  Lucas's highlight was spending time with the Kirby kids.   Penny's low was when she had a 106 temperature and I was freaking out.  It just turned out to be Roseola, but it gave me a few stressful days.  I am not sure why kids have to get sick while they are out of town.  Thanks for having us mom and we look forward to our visit in August.

Penny loved the beach just like her mom.

Providence Children's Museum

Today we decided it was time to get to know Providence so we ventured out to the children's museum.  When we got there Lucas was going crazy talking a mile a minute about everything we saw.  I found that funny because this museum is no comparison to Chicago and even Ann Arbor's was better, but it was plenty to do for a couple of hours.  On the way home I asked him what was his favorite part of the museum and he told me it was the stories.  In the museum they had little rooms that portrayed a specific year in Rhode Island's history.  He absolutely loved them he acted out each room, and they had little cardboard people that had a button you could push and it would tell the story of that person. I personally found these rooms to be pretty boring.  It was a fun day and it was great to see Lucas so excited.
This is how Penny spent most of the day, in the stroller.
Lucas kept telling me this is his cow so he needed a picture.
Yes this a gigantic women that is a chair.  Her name is Estrella and she was donated to the museum.  A little weird.
In this room we came in and some other kids has thrown all of the food and plates on the floor.  When Lucas walked in he said, "Oh no, who made this mess in my room I better clean it up."  I wish he felt that way at home.  This is the feast he prepared for us.
He called this the ladybug house.  He is on the right the second row up, and this is the highest he climbed.
Lucas loved his fox tail
